The incident occurred last Monday in the Yenikonacık neighborhood of the district. It is alleged that the neighborhood head, N.D., learned that his former son-in-law, contractor Soner Kaya (39), who had divorced his daughter three years ago, was planning to remarry.
Following this, it was claimed that the village head, N.D., began threatening his former son-in-law. When the threats did not cease, Kaya went to the village head's office to speak with his former father-in-law.
After the two spoke for a while, an argument broke out between them. The village head shot his former son-in-law in the leg with a pistol he retrieved from his car. Upon notification by bystanders, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
After receiving initial treatment, medical teams transported Kaya to the Adana City Training and Research Hospital. It was learned that Kaya, whose treatment is ongoing, has undergone two surgeries.
VILLAGE HEAD ARRESTED
Gendarmerie teams apprehended the suspect village head in a short time. The village head was referred to the duty court, where he was arrested and sent to prison.
Soner Kaya's brother, Mehmet Emin Kaya, said, "My brother went there to talk, but he was shot in the leg. We want justice to be served and for the attacker to receive his punishment."
