Wolves attack flock in Başkale, 74 sheep killed

Wolves attacked a flock of sheep in the Başkale district of Van. The wolves, which killed 74 sheep and injured 16, fled the area following the intervention of the shepherds.

The incident occurred in the morning hours at the pasture in the Dereboyu hamlet of the Sualtı neighborhood in the district. Wolves attacked the small livestock that shepherds were grazing in the pasture.

The wolves killed 74 sheep and injured 16 other small livestock. 

The other sheep in the flock were saved with the help of the shepherds during the attack. Upon the shepherds notifying the flock owners, teams from the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry went to the region. The teams that arrived at the pasture prepared a report regarding the dead sheep.

Sualtı Neighborhood Headman Yakup Akkaya stated that nearly 90 sheep were killed as a result of the attack by a pack of wolves towards the morning, that there were also injured sheep, and that the teams from the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry came to the region and prepared a report.

According to the report by the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams, 74 sheep were killed.
