STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

A statement was issued by the Yozgat Governor's Office regarding the knife attack in the Sorgun district, in which a 14-year-old child lost his life and 2 people were injured.

In the statement made on the Governor's Office's social media account, it was reported that on August 15, around 21:10, a child pushed into crime named Z.E.Y., who was under the influence of alcohol at a wedding held within a housing complex in Sorgun, injured one person with a knife in a way that would not be life-threatening due to an argument that broke out between them, and then fled.

Stating that security and health teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification, the statement noted the following:

"According to the identified camera footage, it was determined that the suspect had a brief conversation with two children he encountered on the street shortly after the first incident, and subsequently injured them as well before fleeing. He was apprehended shortly after in his hiding place along with the weapon used in the crime and was arrested by judicial authorities and sent to the Juvenile and Youth Penal Execution Institution.

Unfortunately, one of our children who was injured on the street could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital and lost his life. Two of our citizens, one of whom is a child, were injured in the incident in a way that is not life-threatening. The judicial investigation into the incident is ongoing and the matter is being followed with diligence."
