The school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, which have plunged Turkey into mourning in recent days, have moved to the top of the national agenda. In the incident that occurred in Kahramanmaraş, mathematics teacher Ayla Kara and 9 students lost their lives, while a total of
32 people were injured in the two cities. Following these events, which have had a wide impact on society, the influence of television series and computer games on violence has been opened up for debate once again.

According to information received from journalists, television channels and producers have begun to take significant steps in light of recent developments. New episodes of crime and violence-oriented series have been removed from the broadcast schedule for the time being. It has been reported that changes will be made to the scripts of popular series such as “Yeraltı”, “Eşref Tek”, “A.B.İ.”, and “Taşacak Bu Deniz”.

Taking into account the reactions from society and the audience, producers have initiated efforts to reduce scenes containing weapons and violence in series. Thus, it is expected that stories with a lower dose of violence will be preferred in the new episodes that will come to the screen in the coming days.

In parallel with these developments, a significant transformation is also taking place in the advertising sector. Many major brands have suspended advertising collaborations with violence-themed series following the events. Arda Öztaşkın, Director of Corporate Communications at Yapı Kredi, clearly announced that they will not collaborate with productions containing violence in the new period.

As a result, while a notable change in the entertainment industry has come to the fore following the tragic attacks, both producers and sponsors are making important decisions to respond to the increasing sensitivity in society. Experts state that these steps could prevent the normalization of violence through media in the long term.
