Correction issued for Yeni Akit's report on Haluk Levent: 'Two different people were portrayed as the same person'

A correction has been issued by the Citizens' Assembly regarding a report on Haluk Levent published in the July 21 issue of Yeni Akit. The association stated that the report portrayed the musician Haluk Levent, founder of the Ahbap Association, and the economist Prof. Dr. Haluk Levent, who is a member of the association's board of directors, as the same person.

In its report, published with the headline "The 'Ahbap' of Red Soros" on its front page and "Gambler Haluk Levent is also 'Ahbap' with Red Soros!" on an inside page, the newspaper claimed that the musician Haluk Levent, founder of the Ahbap Association, was a board member of the Citizens' Assembly, which counts Osman Kavala among its founders.

In a written statement, the Citizens' Assembly emphasized that this information does not reflect the truth. The statement clarified that the person who is a board member of the association is not the Haluk Levent known to the public as a musician, but rather the economist and academic Prof. Dr. Haluk Levent.

ASSOCIATION EMPHASIZES LEGAL ACTION

The association stated that the publication was "baseless and malicious," announcing that it reserves its rights to reply and correction, as well as all forms of legal recourse. The statement argued that the association and its members were being targeted based on a similarity in names.

The statement also criticized the remarks directed at Osman Kavala. Recalling that Kavala is among the founders of the association, the group noted that years of smear campaigns cannot cast a shadow over the legitimacy of the association.

It was noted that despite the association's statement, the report in question has not been removed from Yeni Akit's website.
