Journalist and broadcaster Aziz Üstel has passed away; who is Aziz Üstel?

Aziz Üstel, a well-known figure in the Turkish media world, has passed away. It was announced that Üstel, a journalist, broadcaster, author, and former executive of the Galatasaray Sports Club, died at the age of 80. No details regarding the cause of death were shared.

Born in 1948, Üstel completed his education in the United States at the University of California in the fields of broadcasting and international relations. After returning to Turkey for his military service, he founded a translation agency with two friends.

Üstel was among those who translated Anthony Burgess's work A Clockwork Orange into Turkish. Throughout his career, he translated approximately 50 books.

MEDIA AND TELEVISION CAREER

In his press career, Üstel served as the General Manager of Subsidiary Publications at the Tercüman newspaper and later worked at the Günaydın newspaper. He stepped into the field of television in 1974 with translations he made for TRT series.

During the era when TRT was the only channel, he prepared Turkish translations for foreign productions such as The Fugitive, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible. He also prepared and hosted the program Gecenin Konukları (Guests of the Night), which was broadcast on TRT for nine years.

In later years, Üstel continued the same program on Kanal 6 and Kanal E. The series Kartal Kaya, for which he wrote the screenplay, was broadcast on Kanal D in 1994. Serving as a commentator on the Futbolmania program on CNN Türk, Üstel also prepared and hosted the Patron Katı (Executive Floor) program on the 24 channel.
