Journalist Necati Zincirkıran has passed away

Necati Zincirkıran, one of the prominent figures of the Turkish press, has passed away at the age of 96. Zincirkıran will be laid to rest following a ceremony to be held on Thursday, October 2.

Necati Zincirkıran, one of the doyens of Turkish journalism, has passed away at the age of 96. Having served as editor-in-chief at Hürriyet and Günaydın newspapers, Zincirkıran also held the position of chairman of the board of directors at Anadolu Agency. Zincirkıran will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 2.

The Turkish Journalists Association issued a message of condolence following Zincirkıran's death. The message stated, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our esteemed colleague Necati Zincirkıran. We extend our condolences to the family of Zincirkıran, who served the journalism profession for many years as a reporter, news director, editor-in-chief, and writer, and to our press community."

WHO IS NECATİ ZİNCİRKIRAN?

Born in Istanbul in 1929, Necati Zincirkıran began his education at the Heybeliada Naval High School but left due to health issues. Continuing his education in England, Zincirkıran earned a master's degree in maritime studies and received a journalism certificate. Upon returning to Turkey in 1950, he stepped into his journalism career.

Starting at Hürriyet newspaper as a Middle East correspondent, Zincirkıran later served as the Ankara Representative and Editor-in-Chief. As the founder of the Hürriyet News Agency, Zincirkıran served as editor-in-chief at Günaydın Newspaper in 1969. Between 1981 and 1986, he assumed the role of chairman of the board of directors at Anadolu Agency. From 1990 onwards, he worked as a chief consultant at Medya Holding and as a writer for Sabah Newspaper. He retired in 2003.

Zincirkıran was fluent in English and German, was married, and was a father of two. He was a holder of a permanent press card and the Burhan Felek Press Service Award. Additionally, he had served as a commodore in various sailing races. The Turkish Journalists Association announced that Zincirkıran's funeral will be held on Thursday, October 2.
