Reha Muhtar passes away at 66

Reha Muhtar, who reached millions of viewers through his many years as a news anchor, programmer, and columnist, has passed away at the age of 66. Muhtar, who was recently taken ill and hospitalized in the Bodrum district of Muğla, had been receiving treatment there. However, despite all medical interventions, the famous broadcaster could not be saved. The news was met with deep sorrow in the media community and among his close circle.

WHO IS REHA MUHTAR?

Reha Muhtar was born on July 21, 1959, in Istanbul. Of Iraqi Turkmen descent, Muhtar continued his education in Ankara and Istanbul due to his father being an academic. After completing his primary, secondary, and high school education at TED Ankara College, he graduated from the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences, School of Press and Broadcasting.

Stepping into journalism in 1980, Muhtar began his professional career the following year as a foreign policy and politics reporter at the Milliyet Newspaper Ankara Bureau. He crowned his experience in print media with reporting and anchoring at TRT. He gained nationwide recognition in Turkey with the special reports he prepared during his time as TRT's Athens correspondent.

In the 1990s, when private broadcasting was just beginning to develop, he left his mark on the agenda with programs such as "Ateş Hattı" (Line of Fire). With his unique and questioning style in presenting, he took on important roles at many television stations, most notably the Show TV Main News Bulletin, as well as Kanal D, Star TV, ATV, FOX, CNN Türk, and Kanaltürk. Not limiting himself to the screen, he also worked as a columnist for a long time at Akşam, Vatan, Sabah, and Star newspapers.

HE WAS ALSO ON THE AGENDA WITH HIS PRIVATE LIFE

In addition to his successes in the media, Muhtar, who frequently made headlines with his private life, made his first marriage to journalist Selin Çağlayan. Later, he had long-term relationships with Nilüfer, one of the important names in the music world, and the famous actress Deniz Uğur. From his relationship with Deniz Uğur, he had twins named Mina and Poyraz.

Reha Muhtar left an indelible mark in the memories of both his colleagues and viewers with his stance, the innovations he brought to journalism, and his different approach to social events.
