The giant brand brought to screens by Acun Ilıcalı faces foreclosure

Endemol Shine, the brand behind world-famous television formats, has been put up for sale via foreclosure in Turkey due to its debts. The company, which holds the rights to many popular programs such as "Var mısın Yok musun" (Deal or No Deal) and "MasterChef," is awaiting a new owner at auction with an estimated value of 5 million TL.

Endemol Shine, once considered one of the most powerful names in the global television and entertainment industry, had produced major hit competitions and series in our country as well. It left its mark on Turkish television history with projects such as "Big Brother," "Fear Factor," "Var mısın Yok musun," and "Benzemez Kimse Sana." However, the financial difficulties experienced by the company brought an end to its operations in Turkey.

Endemol Shine formats, which played an important role in the rise of Acun Ilıcalı, attracted great interest from local audiences. With the localization of creative competition programs, viewership records were broken and new television stars emerged.

By 2017, Endemol Shine was dragged into a financial bottleneck on a global scale. The company, which ended its activities in Argentina and North Africa, remained under a debt burden and filed for bankruptcy for its subsidiary in Turkey. In particular, disruptions in payments for series projects became a major topic in the industry.

With the acquisition of Endemol Shine by the Banijay Group in 2020, the company's wealth of formats was moved under a new umbrella, and it became a leader in content production worldwide. While format rights passed to Banijay, licensing agreements were maintained as they were. However, a final solution had not been reached in the brand process in Turkey.

Finally, the Ankara 8th General Enforcement Office decided to put the "Endemol Shine Turkey" brand, which has the registration number 2016, up for sale for 5 million TL due to debts. The brand is registered under Class 41 according to the International Classification of Goods and Services. The tender will be held via auction on June 2, 2026, at 14:26.

Who will be the new owner of the Endemol Shine brand, which has an important place in Turkish television history, and how this step will reflect on the industry remains a subject of curiosity.
