Winners of the CGD 'Successful Journalists of the Year' awards announced

The winners of the Contemporary Journalists Association's (ÇGD) "Successful Journalists of the Year" awards have been announced. 

The 2024 winners of the Contemporary Journalists Association's traditional "Successful Journalists of the Year" awards have been determined. BirGün columnist Timur Soykan was deemed worthy of the "News Award," while BirGün reporter İsmail Arı received the "Uğur Mumcu Investigative Journalism Award."

'REVEALED THE LANDSCAPE'

The ÇGD explained the reasoning behind the award given to Soykan with the following statement:

"A situation that could only occur in countries where democratic systems have degenerated and where, along with incompetence, 'impudence' and social reaction have been eradicated, emerged with a wedding. It was understood that the wedding, which was described as the 'happiest day' and appeared to be a simple ceremony, was actually backed by great negligence and squalor. The general managers of banks were invited to the wedding of the son of the Deputy Chairman of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). The gifts from the general managers of the banks that the BDDK is responsible for supervising were, of course, jewelry worth hundreds of thousands of liras. Timur Soykan's 'Scandal Wedding' report, which followed and covered this wedding as an uninvited guest and exposed the distortion in all its aspects, was deemed worthy of the News of the Year award for revealing the country's landscape."

The winners of the "Successful Journalists of the Year-2024" awards are as follows:

• Behzat Miser News Award: Mehmet Oflaz – ANKA News Agency , Ebru Apalak – 9.Köy

• TV News Award: Fırat Irmak, Mahmut Özgün – FOX TV

• Interview Award: Osman Çaklı – Gazete Duvar

• Local News Award: Özer Akdemir – Evrensel

• Column Award: Alaattin Aktaş – Ekonomim

• Mahmut Tali Öngören Documentary Award: Esra Yalçınalp – BBC Türkçe
