'A capitalist vandalism...' The grave market neighboring Marx's tomb
The fact that the price of new burial plots at the historic Highgate Cemetery in London, England, where the grave of Karl Marx, one of the founders of scientific socialism, is located, is approaching 25,000 pounds (approximately 1 million TL) has sparked controversy.

According to a report by Hürriyet, Ian Dungavell, the chief executive of the Friends of Highgate Cemetery Trust, who made a statement regarding the discussions, said that it is important to provide space for new burials so that the cemetery can be a "living attraction." The same cemetery had previously made headlines in 2015 when it began charging visitors a 4-pound entrance fee.
'THEY COMMODIFY ALL HUMAN VALUES'
In the report, the opinion of TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan was sought, and Okuyan evaluated the issue as follows:
"It is not surprising at all. But as a communist, I am saddened. It is a mindset that tries to turn everything into money. There have been many who tried to make money around the names of both Marx and Che Guevara. Neo-Nazis had attacked that grave before; they committed acts of vandalism. Now this is another form of vandalism. A capitalist vandalism. They are commodifying all human values. They don't care about Marx or anything else. They see everything as money. There have already been enough mistakes made recently to make Marx turn in his grave. But his ideas are still standing. The day will come when we will clean up all this filth. We will make not only Marx and his ideas, but all values, belong to their true owners: society."
