Kemalist Enlightenment Association joins reactions against flag attack in Nusaybin

Speaking on behalf of the Kemalist Enlightenment Association regarding the removal of the Turkish flag by YPG supporters in Nusaybin, Buket Müftüoğlu stated that it was "an open attack directed at the Republic of Turkey, the historical struggle of the Turkish nation, and its will for sovereignty."

Reactions are growing rapidly against the attack on the Turkish flag that took place yesterday in the Nusaybin district of Mardin. A statement regarding the developments in the region also came from the Board of Directors of the Kemalist Enlightenment Association.

Speaking on behalf of the Kemalist Enlightenment Association and emphasizing that the removal of the Turkish flag from its pole and its trampling on the ground was not an ordinary public order incident, Association Spokesperson Buket Müftüoğlu said, "Every hand that reached out to that flag today has reached out to this nation's right to exist."

Tensions rose in the region following the DEM Party's group meeting held this week in the Nusaybin district of Mardin. Yesterday, after the meeting, a group of YPG supporters marched toward the border line carrying posters of Öcalan to protest operations against the YPG in Syria. The group, attempting to cross the border, targeted the Turkish flag and removed it from its pole. Following the incident, there were intense reactions from politicians. A statement regarding the incident also came from the Kemalist Enlightenment Association. In the statement, which bore the signature of the Board of Directors and was shared by Spokesperson Müftüoğlu, it was stated, "The removal, throwing to the ground, and trampling of the Turkish flag in Nusaybin, Mardin, is not an ordinary public order incident; it is an open attack directed at the Republic of Turkey, the historical struggle of the Turkish nation, and its will for sovereignty."

'THAT HAND HAS REACHED OUT TO OUR RIGHT TO EXIST'

Stating that the Turkish flag was not drawn at a desk in this geography, Kemalist Enlightenment Association Spokesperson Müftüoğlu assessed, "That flag rose with blood, life, and resistance in Sakarya, Dumlupınar, the mountains of the Southeast, along the borders, on the front lines, and in the trenches. Every hand that reached out to that flag today has reached out to this nation's right to exist." The association's statement concluded with the words, "As the Kemalist Enlightenment Association, we declare clearly: The Republic of Turkey is a nation-state, and this reality is not open to debate. It is announced to the public with determination."
