Pitch Black: Looking from the darkness of time
In their interdisciplinary exhibition titled PITCH BLACK, Nur Gökbulut and Özge Gökbulut Özdemir re-examine the darkness permeating today's world through art.

Consisting of paintings and installations, the exhibition brings with it a critical look at the harsh face of the era through wars, disasters, environmental destruction, and the fractures in daily life, as well as an inquiry conveyed to the viewer. It invites the audience to reflect on what it means to witness darkness and to become accustomed to it.
How the current political and ecological agenda infiltrates ordinary lives is addressed in the exhibition, sometimes through striking images and at other times through a more abstract narrative. In this respect, the exhibition constructs a space of encounter that includes unease and questioning rather than an aesthetic that comforts the viewer. Furthermore, PITCH BLACK continues to emphasize the idea of resistance, resilience, and hope that persists within the darkness.
Artists Nur Gökbulut and Özge Gökbulut Özdemir describe the exhibition with these words:
“We are traveling in a darkness where the black is known but not seen. Black is both the ground we step on and a shadow hovering over us…
Black, dark… We are walking in a dystopian world with the light of hope that does not extinguish within us.
There is no war we haven't seen, no fire, no earthquake; endless massacres from olive trees to stray animals, child abuse, human trafficking…
Domestic and foreign files, files…
Darkened images in all of our minds…
Pots blazing in an increasingly warming world…”
The PITCH BLACK exhibition opens on February 26 at the Ankara Krishna Art Center and can be visited until March 18.
