In its statement, the TKH emphasized that the August 30 Victory was won not only against imperialist powers but also against the forces supporting the sultanate and the caliphate that collaborated with them. The statement recalled that the country was dragged into occupation due to the collaborationist policies of the Ottoman dynasty.
The following statements were included in the declaration made by the TKH:
TKH: ON THE 103RD ANNIVERSARY OF AUGUST 30, WE WILL DEFEAT IMPERIALISM AND REACTIONISM ONCE AGAIN!
Today is August 30. On the 103rd anniversary of the great victory, the struggle for liberation won against occupation and imperialism must be brought to consciousness once again.
The August 30 victory was not won solely against imperialist powers; it was also won against the reactionary forces supporting the sultanate and the caliphate that collaborated with imperialist powers.
During the years of imperialist war, our country was effectively occupied by the Armistice of Mudros, signed by the Ottoman Empire on October 30, 1918. The occupation that took place did not occur solely as a result of the victory of imperialist powers, but as a result of the collaborationist policies of the Ottoman sultanate. The Ottoman dynasty, which sacrificed our country at the expense of protecting its sultanate, turned a blind eye to the country being partitioned piece by piece by imperialism.
Our country was dragged into catastrophe at the hands of the Vahdettins, Damat Ferits, Sait Mollas, Ali Kemals, and reactionaries who openly collaborated with imperialism.
Many regions of the Ottoman Empire, primarily its capital Istanbul, were subjected to the occupation of foreign soldiers. The occupation deepened and took on another dimension with the landing of Greek forces, supported by Britain and France, in Izmir on May 15, 1919.
However, the occupation plan did not go as the imperialist powers expected.
Mustafa Kemal and his comrades-in-arms, who led our people's struggle for liberation against occupation and imperialism, launched a great resistance movement with the support of the impoverished people.
The Societies for the Defense of Rights of Anatolia and Rumelia established for this resistance, and armed popular organizations such as the Kuvâ-yi Milliye, rose up against the occupation and dealt a major blow to the imperialists and their collaborators.
While a great victory was won on August 30, the struggle for liberation that took place paved the way for a new foundation, and the Republic of Turkey was proclaimed.
However, today, on the 103rd anniversary of the great victory, imperialist aggression and reactionism have surrounded our country once again.
The AKP government, with its dream of neo-Ottomanism, wants to do today what imperialism and reactionism could not do 103 years ago by eliminating the fundamental gains of the Republic, primarily secularism.
The ambitions of those who want to fully surrender our country to imperialism will once again be thwarted.
Turkey's progressive accumulation will once again win a victory against imperialism and reactionism with a new foundation and a new republic.
On the 103rd anniversary of August 30, we will defeat imperialism and reactionism once again!
Long live the Republic, Long live Socialism!
