Murat Kurum introduced the projects he would implement if elected Mayor of Istanbul. Kurum promised Istanbulites that he would build 322 km of metro lines in 5 years.
A response to Kurum came from IYI Party IMM Group Deputy Chairman and Transportation Expert Dr. Suat Sarı. Finding Kurum's metro line target exaggerated, Sarı asked, "Are you Superman!" Sarı wrote the following:
"Mr. @murat_kurum, either your advisors are giving you wrong information, or you are not examining the information provided. The promise is; 'We will increase the 328 km metro line to 650 km in 5 years'.
Mr. Kurum, how much does 1 km of metro cost? Do you know? Building a metro is not like building earthquake housing. How will you build the 322 km of metro in your target in 5 years?
Who in the world has built 322 km of metro in 5 years? Are you Superman! You were able to build 112 km of rail systems in 25 years; how will you build 322 km in 5 years? The cost of 322 km of metro is 17 billion dollars.
I am asking! Do you know the annual budget of the IMM? Let me tell you. 7 billion dollars. A high-level bureaucrat who has served as a minister cannot make reckless, comical statements. This means underestimating the people of Istanbul. I will not examine your other transportation promises for now so as not to upset you further!"
