In Mersin, IYI Party Mezitli District Chair Erhan Antalyalı, former Mezitli District Chair Hüseyin Çelik, along with Executive Board members and nearly the entire district administration, totaling approximately 200 IYI Party members, have resigned from their party.
The IYI Party members declared their support for CHP Mezitli Mayoral Candidate Ahmet Serkan Tuncer.
CHP Mezitli District Chair Ulaş Yılmaz expressed his happiness regarding their participation in the party and hinted that there might be further additions.
"WE DECIDED TO RESIGN"
At the support meeting held on the subject, IYI Party Mezitli District Chair Erhan Antalyalı stated that they decided to resign in order to support Ahmet Serkan Tuncer and said the following:
“I have been serving in the IYI Party for 5.5 years. To support our candidate Ahmet Serkan Tuncer in the March 31, 2024 local elections, I, my board of directors, my friends on the executive board, and my fellow council members have decided to resign. We are sure that our candidate will have a successful path. I congratulate him in advance and wish him continued success.”
"EVEN IF THERE ARE NO ALLIANCES AT THE TOP, THERE ARE ALLIANCES AT THE GRASSROOTS"
Former IYI Party Mezitli District Chair Hüseyin Çelik stated that they would work day and night during Ahmet Serkan Tuncer's candidacy process and conveyed the following:
“I am not a stranger to the CHP administration and its members. Ahmet and I served as District Chairs during the same period. We consulted with each other on many issues. We fought together. Even though he was not a candidate in the 2019 elections, I witnessed his work firsthand.
We all live in Mezitli and we want Mezitli to receive the best possible service. The conditions we have reached showed us that we need to be by Ahmet's side. My friends gathered here to resign from the party and give clear and explicit support.
Our only goal is for Mezitli to receive better service. We are sure that Ahmet will continue by building on the services provided by those who have served as mayor to date. We have a lot to say about him. We are here now too. We will work day and night to ensure that the CHP flag continues to wave at the municipality and that he wins the election with a margin that will set an example for Mersin. We have no other choice. Even though there are no alliances at the top, there are alliances at the grassroots level. We are experiencing this in Mersin today.”
TUNCER: "OUR PURPOSE IS ONE, OUR GOAL IS ONE"
Finally, Mezitli Mayoral Candidate Ahmet Serkan Tuncer underlined that his dream was to become the Mayor of the city where he was born and raised, and included the following statements in his speech:
“It made me very happy that you kept the promise you made to me. We are a family. I have worked with you in every street and corner of Mezitli, and I am very happy and proud to work with you now. I am glad you came. Our purpose is one, our goal is one. When I was born, Mersin was a village, then it became a town, a district, and a province.
After university, I set a goal for myself and said I would become Mayor. I love the city where I was born very much. We have made it our duty to focus on the problems of those who come to us without questioning who they are or which party they belong to. It was very valuable that you believed in me. You are very precious to me, and we will govern Mezitli together. On the morning of April 1, we will go to the Municipality together with songs and applause. In the coming period, regardless of right or left, we will all be together and give Mezitli the value it deserves. You gave me strength and power. I thank you all infinitely.”
