26 MPs ran in local elections, 4 won mayoral races! That party's seat count will drop...

According to unofficial results, 4 CHP members out of the 26 MPs who participated in the local election race won their mayoral bids.

A total of 26 members of parliament participated in the March 31 Local Administration General Elections, including 7 from the IYI Party, 5 from the CHP and Saadet Party, 4 from the AKP, 1 each from the DEVA Party, DEM Party, and the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), and 2 from HÜDA PAR.

According to unofficial results, 4 out of the 5 MPs nominated by the CHP were elected as mayors.

CHP'S NUMBER OF MPS WILL DECREASE

CHP Group Deputy Chair and Afyonkarahisar MP Burcu Köksal won the Afyonkarahisar mayoral race, CHP Adıyaman MP Abdurrahman Tutdere won in Adıyaman, CHP Kastamonu MP Hasan Baltacı won in Kastamonu, and CHP Kırıkkale MP Ahmet Önal won the Kırıkkale mayoral election.

With the MPs who won the elections taking office, the number of seats held by the CHP in Parliament will drop from 129 to 125.

22 MPS WERE DEFEATED

AKP Istanbul MP Murat Kurum, Aydın MP Mustafa Savaş, Eskişehir MP İdris Nebi Hatipoğlu, and İzmir MP Ceyda Bölünmez Çankırı could not cross the finish line in the local elections.

While CHP Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba lost the election in Malatya, IYI Party Adana MP Ayyüce Türkeş Taş for Adana Metropolitan, İzmir MP Ümit Özlale for İzmir Metropolitan, Bursa MP Yüksel Selçuk Türkoğlu for Bursa Metropolitan, Istanbul MP Mehmet Satuk Buğra Kavuncu for Istanbul Metropolitan, Balıkesir MP Turhan Çömez for Balıkesir Metropolitan, Muğla MP Metin Ergun for Muğla Metropolitan, and Denizli MP Yasin Öztürk for Denizli Metropolitan mayoral elections were unsuccessful.

Saadet Party Istanbul MP Birol Aydın for Istanbul Metropolitan, Kayseri MP Mahmut Arıkan for Kayseri Metropolitan, Denizli MP Sema Silkin Ün for Denizli Metropolitan, Hatay MP Necmettin Çalışkan for Hatay Metropolitan, and Group Chair and Muğla MP Selçuk Özdağ for Manisa Metropolitan mayoral elections lost the race.

DEM Party Erzurum MP Meral Danış Beştaş, DEVA Party Ankara MP İdris Şahin, Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chair and Istanbul MP Erkan Baş, as well as HÜDA PAR Batman MP Serkan Ramanlı and Mersin MP Faruk Dinç were other names who were not elected as mayors.

THEY WILL EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT OF CHOICE WITHIN 15 DAYS

In accordance with the provision of the Law on Local Administrations and Neighborhood Headmen and Council of Elders Elections, which states that "membership in parliament, mayoral office, provincial general assembly, and municipal council membership, as well as the office of headman, cannot be combined in one person," the MPs elected as mayors will exercise their right of choice within 15 days from the date the election results are officially notified. Those who do not exercise their right of choice within this period will be deemed to have rejected their new elected office.
