Just as it did in previous elections, the Istanbul Bar Association has published an election law handbook for the local elections to be held on March 31, intended for ballot box committee members, lawyers serving at polling stations, observers, and voters.

The Istanbul Bar Association's Election Law and Election Security Working Commission prepared the book, which covers election legislation and provides information to assist lawyers and citizens who will be on duty at the ballot boxes to ensure the elections are conducted securely.

“PROTECTING THE BALLOT BOXES AND OUR VOTES IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY”

The book was prepared to provide support to voters and anyone seeking assistance with election law on election day, and to ensure that complaint petitions, objection petitions, and the content of official records are in accordance with the law if necessary.

The following statements were included in the Foreword of the Istanbul Bar Association's “Election Law Handbook”:

“Dear Colleagues; It is possible to prevent all erroneous practices that may be committed intentionally or accidentally so that elections, which form the foundation of democracy, can be conducted and completed fairly. Since the most important duty in this regard belongs to the Ballot Box Committee members and the observers at the ballot boxes, the importance of the legal support we will provide to them is clear.

Protecting the ballot boxes and our votes is everyone's responsibility.

This study is intended to inform about the issues that must be applied and observed in elections, in line with the Election Law and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) Circulars numbered 138, 138/II, and 139.

This booklet has been prepared to ensure that, as lawyers, we facilitate that actions and procedures are carried out in accordance with the procedure and the law against unlawful practices that ballot box committee members, observers, and voters may encounter on election day. We would like to thank all our colleagues who supported and contributed to our election law efforts in the March 31, 2024 Elections.”
