The X account of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, known as the 'Presidential Candidate Office', was blocked from access in Turkey yesterday by a court order.

The access ban decision had been forwarded to internet service providers. However, the username of the account in question had been changed in an attempt to circumvent the access ban.

Following an application made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the changed username, an access ban decision was also obtained for the new username.

NEW DECISION AND USERNAME CHANGE

On May 8, İmamoğlu's personal X account was blocked from access in Turkey. İmamoğlu's 'Presidential Candidate Office' account was similarly subjected to an access ban on the grounds of 'protecting national security and public order'.

Upon the request of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the account's username had been changed. This move had effectively prevented the ban from being implemented. However, the court has now issued an access ban for the new username as well.
