According to Governor Davut Gül, crime rates in Istanbul have fallen: 'Istanbul is now more peaceful'
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated that there has been a significant decrease in crime rates, saying, “There is a 9 percent decrease in crimes against persons and a 26 percent decrease in crimes against property. We are determined in our fight against gangs.”

The Security Evaluation Meeting in Istanbul was held at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate hall in Eyüpsultan. In addition to Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, the meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Nail Anlar, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Yusuf Kenan Topcu, Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız, and Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Region Commander Serkan Tezel.
Speaking at the meeting, Governor Gül emphasized that crime rates in the city have decreased significantly compared to the same period last year. Gül stated, “A 9 percent decrease was observed in the 8 most significant crimes committed against persons. The clearance rate for these crimes has reached 99.4 percent. There is a 26 percent decrease in the 9 crimes committed against property. This picture shows that Istanbul is more peaceful and safer than it was yesterday.”
NUMBER OF OPERATIONS AGAINST GANGS HAS INCREASED
Touching upon operations against organized crime groups, Governor Gül announced that there has been a 32 percent increase in the number of operations and a 30 percent increase in the number of dismantled criminal gangs compared to the same period last year. Gül said, “No one is above the law. There is no freedom to commit crimes. The power of the state will be felt everywhere.”
TAX LOSS FROM SMUGGLING EXCEEDED 1 BILLION TL
Sharing the results obtained in the fight against smuggling, Governor Davut Gül stated that the amount of products seized within the scope of the fight against counterfeit and illicit alcohol has tripled. Gül said, “The tax loss prevented from illicit products has doubled compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 billion 33 million TL.”
STRICT BAN ON FOREST ENTRY AND INSPECTIONS AT BEACHES
Conveying the measures taken against forest fires, Gül stated, “We have banned entry into forest areas and lighting fires, except for picnic and recreational areas, from June 23 to October 15. We must protect our forests, especially during the summer period.”
