ADD Chairman Hüsnü Bozkurt reacts to Yeni Şafak columnist: 'Yusuf Kaplan is an insolent man'

Mustafa Hüsnü Bozkurt, Chairman of the Kemalist Thought Association (ADD), evaluated the agenda on the ADD TV program "Kemalist Perspective" under the title "Secularism is the Liberation of the Mind." Responding to Yeni Şafak columnist Yusuf Kaplan, who insolently claimed that Kemalism is "rootlessness," Bozkurt stated that what is truly rootless is the political Islamist rhetoric based on imperial rote learning.

'SECULARISM IS THE LIBERATION OF THE HUMAN MIND'

In the "Kemalist Perspective" program, held on the anniversary (February 5) of the inclusion of the Kemalist Revolution Principles (6 Arrows) in the Constitution, ADD Chairman Mustafa Hüsnü Bozkurt stated that there is no consensus on the definition of secularism, but that this stems from ignoring its true definition. Bozkurt said, "What is secularism? It has many definitions. Some say it is 'freedom of religion and conscience.' Some say it is 'the separation of state and religious affairs.' Some say it is 'the separation of religious and worldly affairs.' Some say it is 'freedom of expression.' Some say it is 'irreligion.' Every kind of definition is made. But I am of the opinion that we should all act with the definition of science. What is the scientific definition of secularism? Secularism is the liberation of the human mind."

'AN INSOLENT MAN NAMED YUSUF KAPLAN'

Bozkurt gave a lesson on Kemalism to Yeni Şafak newspaper columnist Yusuf Kaplan, who used the phrases "Kemalism is lack of predecessors, it is rootlessness" on the program "Other Things with Serdar Tuncer" on the TVNET channel. 

'IMPERIAL ROTE LEARNING'

Regarding Kaplan, against whom the ADD Headquarters has also filed a criminal complaint, Bozkurt said, "Kemalism is the founding philosophy of our Republic. What is Kemalism? It is being anti-imperialist. It is being for full independence. What is Kemalism? It is putting an end to the exploitation of the poor Anatolian people that Western imperialism has been carrying out for centuries. What is Kemalism? It is the equalization of women as human beings and their ability to freely take part in every field of social life, to receive education as they wish, and to gain their independence." While giving this lesson on Kemalism, he added, "This talk by these political Islamists that 'Kemalism is rootlessness' is pure imperial rote learning, and these political Islamists of today, who emulate the dynasty members who served imperialism, are in a state of complete ignorance." 

'WHAT THESE CLOWNS CALL ROOTS...'

Bozkurt said, "They say Kemalism is lack of predecessors, it is rootlessness. What is it that the man identifies as roots? It is the Salafi Islam he brought with him from Yavuz Sultan Selim. What is it? 'The human mind is not capable of understanding the Quran. Only a scholar like me can explain it to you.' Then you get hooked on a turbaned fool and chase after a slipper that won't burn in hell. You also believe that in the other world, God will marry Mary to Prophet Muhammad. You also treat God as your own... You insolent man," he said, and added, "This is what these clowns call roots."

'THE FREE-MINDED HUMAN'

As he approached the end of the broadcast, ADD Chairman Mustafa Hüsnü Bozkurt emphasized secularism again, saying, "Secularism is the thinking system of a free-minded human."
