After Üsküdar, Cübbeli Ahmet now wants the IMM!

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known in the public eye as "Cübbeli Ahmet," made a noteworthy post on his social media account following the election for the acting mayor of Üsküdar.

While expressing his satisfaction with the municipal administration in Üsküdar passing to the AKP, Ünlü also made a similar 'wish' for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).

"The return of Üsküdar to the AK Party has filled us national Muslims with joy. May Allah Almighty complete our happiness with the return of our Istanbul. May He also give those who caused the loss of Istanbul what they deserve. Amen!"

HE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SENTENCED TO PRISON

Cübbeli Ahmet had previously been sentenced to 2 years, 7 months, and 3 days in prison for "openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility based on religious differences" due to his past statements. Cübbeli Ahmet, who was detained in 2002, was sent to prison following the verdict.

Cübbeli Ahmet most recently made headlines with his statement regarding the European Champion A National Women's Volleyball Team. Claiming that congratulating the volleyball players would cause a person to leave their religion, Cübbeli Ahmet had stated, "Congratulating the volleyball girls makes one leave their religion. Because they are doing a sinful act. Congratulating a forbidden act makes one an infidel."

HOW DID THE AKP TAKE BACK ÜSKÜDAR?

Following the arrest and suspension of Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, CHP candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya had won the first acting mayoral election held on August 5. In that election, Çetinkaya received 22 votes in the fourth round, while the AKP's candidate, Dündar Ziya Gültekin, remained at 18 votes.

Following the AKP's objection to the election result, the Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court issued a stay of execution and ordered the election to be repeated. It was noted that two CHP council members were also arrested during the renewed process. With Gültekin being elected acting mayor with 23 votes in the final ballot, the administration of Üsküdar Municipality passed to the AKP.

In the final election held at the Üsküdar Municipal Council, the People's Alliance candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin was elected acting mayor after four rounds, receiving 23 votes. The CHP/New Party group candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya remained at 19 votes.

Despite the AKP and MHP having a total of 21 members in the council, Gültekin receiving 23 votes led to assessments that at least two members from the opposition group had supported the AKP candidate.
