Ahmet Davutoğlu calls for a 'reorganization' of the conservative base: I am ready both inside and outside the AK Party

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu continues to remain on the agenda with his remarks regarding his former party, the AKP.

Davutoğlu, who stated in a television program he attended recently that "I have never spiritually broken away from the AK Party. If the President calls, I will go," later argued in a subsequent statement that 'his words were taken out of context.'

Speaking to Cansu Çamlıbel from T24, Davutoğlu made new statements regarding the issue.

Signaling to the AKP's conservative base that he will be a part of the race after Erdoğan, Davutoğlu said, "I am ready for a reorganization within the AK Party as well as an alternative reorganization outside the AK Party."

Reiterating that he has never broken away from the AKP, Davutoğlu said that the most discussed topic among the conservative base is the question, "What will become of us after Erdoğan?"

So, what is the date considered as 'post-Erdoğan'?

At any moment. I mean, there could be an election. God forbid, I could also pass away. This is human nature. What will happen after a 22-23 year period should be discussed. Look, the period we call the single-party era, 1923-1946, how many years? 22 years. After such a period, because the Republican People's Party could not produce a healthy alternative from within itself, the Democrat Party emerged. It emerged from within itself again, but as a different party. The Republican People's Party could not transform itself. Atatürk's early passing perhaps also had an effect. But ultimately, what happens after such periods is the most fundamental question for that leader and those who support that party.

If there is such a debate inside, why don't they come out and talk about it outside as well?

You could say, for example, that those who intended to do this before could not pass the test of politics. But ultimately, this question is not a question about Tayyip Erdoğan. We are talking about a debate similar to the one regarding the reorganization of the center-right after Özal. Today, everyone in the conservative base will discuss this question and make a choice. The AK Party will evaluate its election performance in terms of its own future. And everyone will enter into a search. What I am saying is this; there is a need for a major reorganization movement. I am saying that I am ready to support that movement. This could be a reorganization within the AK Party, or an alternative reorganization outside the AK Party. I am ready for both.
