Ahmet Davutoğlu responds to Devlet Bahçeli: 'Sometimes it is necessary to be uncomfortable'

Speaking at his party's parliamentary group meeting, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had criticized Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu's remarks, "Full equality will be ensured between Kurds and Turks and other communities in Turkey, and an excellent relationship will be established between Turkey and Kurdistan," by saying, "These claims and expressions have no moral or objective basis, and are flawed and problematic from head to toe."

Bahçeli had also stated the following:

The speech delivered by Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu at the 5th Middle East Peace and Security Forum held in the city of Duhok, Iraq, has extremely disturbed us.

Making statements at his party's group meeting today, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu responded to these words from Bahçeli.

Davutoğlu used the following expressions in his speech: 

"The English version of the speech I gave was sent to Mr. Bahçeli; I will present the Turkish version to him. If Mr. Bahçeli looks at the descriptive part of my Duhok speech, he will see that I said almost the same things and warned those there with the same words.

In the context of a global crisis...

But Mr. Bahçeli does not look at them. He criticizes me with these two words:

His own words... He says the speech Ahmet Davutoğlu gave at the conference held in the city of Duhok, Iraq, is extremely disturbing. True, I am not obligated to make anyone comfortable; in fact, sometimes it is necessary to cause discomfort.

A politician who does not break taboos cannot be called a politician. Sometimes we must be uncomfortable so that we can stand up."
