Ahmet Türk, sentenced to prison in the Kobani case, evaluates the verdict: 'It is putting dynamite on Turkey's future'

DEM Party Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Kobani case, said that the 'normalization process' had given him hope, but that nothing had come of it.
Speaking to İsmail Saymaz from Sözcü Newspaper, Türk said the following:
“In reality, this is putting dynamite on Turkey's future. It is a policy of politics and marginalization that will pit peoples against each other. Today, we need to embrace each other and solve problems together. This process does not only harm the Kurds. It also harms the Turkish people.
It is impossible for people to be happy in a country where there is no democracy and rule of law. It is impossible for Turkey to become a powerful state. If there were democracy in Turkey, it would both be the most powerful country in the Middle East and a state that would embrace all Kurds. But unfortunately, it cannot manage this, it does not do it."
"IS THERE RULE OF LAW IN THIS COUNTRY? NO"
Evaluating the possibility of a trustee being appointed due to the sentence given to him, Ahmet Türk spoke as follows:
“This sentence must first be approved by the Court of Cassation. If you ask me if there is rule of law in this country, there is not. What is important is that the will of the people is respected. This is what is important for us. It is important that our people take a stand against this policy and show that they are not on the side of this policy. We experienced an election that revealed the wrongness of this policy. That is what is important for us, it is the will of the people. The will of the people emerged strongly. Now the AKP is getting 26 percent of the votes, our party in Mardin is getting 57 percent. Whether they appoint a trustee or not. Our only sorrow will be this: Disrespect for the will."
Emphasizing that the CHP must protect democracy, Türk said regarding Özgür Özel's assessments of the case, "Mr. Özgür is truly a democrat, a person who protects democracy. His efforts are important to us. It is important that he defends democracy not for us, but for Turkey" he said.
