COURT DECISION ON COMPENSATION

Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek had taken CHP leader Özgür Özel's statements about him to court. In the case heard at the Istanbul Civil Court, it was evaluated whether Özel's expressions exceeded the limits of criticism. The court ruled that the term "mobile guillotine" used by the CHP leader regarding Gürlek violated personal rights and ordered him to pay 480 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages.

6 SEPARATE STATEMENTS TAKEN TO COURT

It was stated that Özel had targeted Akın Gürlek using similar expressions in six separate group meetings held on different dates. In the lawsuit filed by Chief Prosecutor Gürlek through his lawyer, it was argued that each statement constituted a separate violation. The court decided on a total of 480 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages, amounting to 80 thousand liras for each statement.

INTEREST MAY ALSO BE ADDED TO THE PAYMENT

According to information reported by the Sabah newspaper, the court's decision was calculated excluding legal interest. If the decision becomes final, Özel will be required to make the 480 thousand lira payment.
