Muhammet Kökten, who had previously announced his candidacy for the Fethiye mayoralty from the AKP, has been nominated as the MHP candidate.

According to a report in Gerçek Gündem, following the announcement of Kökten's candidacy, nationalists gathered in front of the MHP district building in Fethiye yesterday evening to protest the nomination and called on MHP Fethiye District Chair Osman Cura to resign.

"YOU ARE TRYING TO IMPOSE AN AKP CANDIDATE HOPEFUL ON NATIONALISTS"

Fethiye Ülkü Ocakları (Idealist Hearths) President Oğuzhan Teke attempted to calm the group. One individual stated the following:

"You imposed a candidate as our 1st-rank parliamentary nominee in Muğla who no one knew, who had praised the İYİ Party, who had gone into the İYİ Party, and who was an İYİ Party sympathizer, on us nationalists, on the children of Türkeş, and we did not speak up. Today, we have reached a point where you said, 'As a district organization, the MHP will field its own candidate in Fethiye.' Well, today you are trying to impose an AKP candidate hopeful on nationalists. Wouldn't nationalists ask this question: If the MHP was going to field a candidate, why are we taking the AKP's candidate? If the AKP was going to field one, we should have left the district to them. Don't we have our own nationalist candidates? Why weren't MHP member Cengiz Çay or Kaan Kürşat Gönül, who serves at the MHP headquarters, nominated? Were they not as nationalist as Muhammet Kökten?"

DISTRICT CHAIR DISMISSED FROM DUTY

In a statement issued today by the MHP Muğla Provincial Presidency, it was announced that Cura had been dismissed from his post. The statement said, "The dismissal of the Fethiye MHP district chair appears as a turning point in order to work with stronger and more dynamic cadres before March 31, 2024. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Osman Cura for the effort and diligence he has shown to date. We wish him success in his future life."
