AKP figure reacts to taxes: 'Are you trying to push the public into the streets?'

With the redetermination of property tax bases in Turkey for the 2026-2029 period, some regions have seen increases of up to 40 percent. Abdurrahman Dilipak, a figure close to the ruling party, also opposed the regulation, which has drawn rising criticism, with harsh words.

Former Yeni Akit columnist Abdurrahman Dilipak stated in a post on his social media account that the heavy tax burden could lead to a social backlash.

Dilipak used the following expressions in his post:

“Are these sudden and heavy taxes being implemented to provoke the public, who are already at their breaking point, into the streets? A gentle horse's kick is hard. Excessive violence destroys the wisdom in the goal, and that bond of affection breaks where it is thinnest. Too much coyness tires the lover.”

WHAT DOES THE NEW TAX REGULATION BRING?

The new property tax bases announced for the 2026-2029 period have sparked public debate.

With the new regulation, even ordinary apartment flats could fall under the scope of the “valuable housing tax.” Experts state that these increases will create a serious economic burden on society, noting that the regulation has effectively turned into a “wealth tax.”

INCREASES OF UP TO 40 PERCENT

The fact that property tax rates in many regions exceed 40 percent directly affects the middle class in particular. While real estate owners are faced with high taxes, it is predicted that the regulation could also trigger housing prices.
