AKP insider talk on Meral Akşener's meeting with Erdoğan! 'Some MPs...'

İYİ Party Founding Chair Meral Akşener visited the Presidential Palace to meet with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting has become a central topic on the political agenda.

While rumors are circulating in political circles that Akşener 'will be appointed as Vice President' following her surprise visit, the IYI Party stated that the meeting in question does not bind the party.

According to a report by Merve Kılıç from Cumhuriyet; notable statements came from Akşener's chief of staff, Esma Bekar, regarding the meeting that caused discomfort among IYI Party members. Bekar stated that the IYI Party is afraid of Akşener and is trying to expel her from the party.

"AKŞENER HAS ABANDONED THE PARTY"

Akşener's decision to attend the meeting without her party pin, and her subsequent removal of the IYI Party logo banner from her social media account, also sparked reactions within the party. Some party sources commented that Akşener has reached an agreement with Erdoğan and has abandoned her party.

"APPROXIMATELY 5 MPS WILL SWITCH TO THE AKP DURING THE CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS"

Party officials, who commented that "The IYI Party is greater than Akşener," noted that the IYI Party's stance on the constitution is clear. Following the meeting, allegations that some MPs close to Akşener would switch to the AKP were also among the topics discussed in party circles. A high-level official in the party, who claimed that approximately five MPs would switch to the AKP during the new constitutional process, alleged that Burak Akburak would be one of these names. Party members also expressed that the tension between Akşener and the IYI Party will escalate further in the coming days.

WHAT DID DERVİŞOĞLU SAY ABOUT THE AKŞENER-ERDOĞAN MEETING?

İYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu had said regarding the Akşener-Erdoğan meeting, "I should have been the one taken as the counterpart."

"The part that concerns me is that Mr. Erdoğan met with Ms. Akşener while I am the chairman of the IYI Party. I should have been the one taken as the counterpart," said Dervişoğlu, adding that he called Akşener after the meeting and continued as follows:

"They stated that they exchanged views regarding Turkey. I find it strange that names close to her are making certain statements on TV screens after this meeting. I found it disturbing for the party. These are statements made by people who are not competent to speak, acting as if they were appointed officials. I cannot remain silent about these; I cannot be silent against those who try to make it look like there is trouble within the party. Whoever it may be in this party, I cannot remain indifferent to those who will harm the party's past, present, and future. If some try to reach for the stars without knowing their own stature, they may face a reaction they have not seen from me before. I am no one's clerk. I am the Chairman of the IYI Party."

"DOES DERVİŞOĞLU EVEN WANT TO GO TO THE PALACE?"

"A segment that claims Erdoğan has determined his own counterpart is targeting my party and me. The situation created by those who abnormalize the process is not being discussed. From my perspective, the rumors are not important at all. There is an area here that needs to be discussed. It must be thought through in all its aspects. It is being discussed that a constitutional amendment will be made in Turkey. I have said from the very beginning that this would overshadow Turkey's agenda. I said that we would not be an intermediary for such a process. When it comes to the Palace versus the nation, our preference is with the nation. I said that I would not abandon the country to the words coming out of one man's mouth. I stated what we cannot stand side-by-side with. There is no harm in discussing the issue from our perspective. It does not bother me from a leadership standpoint either. Ms. Akşener went to meet with President Erdoğan. There are debates about 'Akşener went to the Palace, not Dervişoğlu.' Does Dervişoğlu even want to go to the Palace? That needs to be asked. I have no such desire, so why would I be bothered by this meeting? It is a delusion to see us as small enough to fall for these petty games."
