Following the arrest of CHP Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, AKP member Eray Karadeniz, who took office as acting mayor, introduced himself as "Mayor" on the municipality's website. However, after this situation drew public backlash, he changed his title to "Acting Mayor."
Furthermore, Karadeniz had all news articles related to Bahçetepe removed from the municipality's official website. Currently, the only news item on the site is about Karadeniz receiving a warm welcome from the residents of Gaziosmanpaşa.
Looking at Karadeniz's background, it is observed that he served as the Gaziosmanpaşa Youth Branch President during the period when the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) was under AKP administration and was hired into the İBB staff a year later. Karadeniz, who took 400 days of unpaid leave until January 2020, did not receive a salary during this period and was dismissed in 2020.
It is also known that he lost the reinstatement lawsuit he filed against İSPARK.
