There is less than 4 months left until the March 31, 2024 Local Elections. While parties are accelerating their election campaigns, statements regarding the election continue to come from politicians.
Former AKP MP Metin Külünk, who is an AKP candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) in the local elections, made notable remarks about the local elections and the economy in a program he attended.
"WHO IS BUYING THE APARTMENTS?"
According to the news on Mynet, emphasizing the citizens' cost-of-living crisis, Külünk stated, "Restaurants are full now, some of our friends made this mistake before the election. Sir, this many mobile phones are being sold, this many apartments are being sold. Who is buying the apartments? How many people can afford mobile phones? Can everyone eat at the beach in Beşiktaş in Istanbul... A population of 10 million around Istanbul is not equal to Beşiktaş... It is not equal to a line in Şişli, a line in Üsküdar, a line in Kadıköy... Even in Kartal, the area above the E-5 and the area below the E-5 by the sea... They are not equal to each other..."
EARLY ELECTION CLAIM: OUR PRESIDENT CANNOT SIT COMFORTABLY IN BEŞTEPE
Touching upon the local elections, Külünk said, "Now, if we do not see this, especially the 60 percent [of the population] that I believe is directly pressured by the recent difficult financial process, and if we do not take steps to address their livelihood problems, and on top of that, if we act with the attitude of 'whoever we put forward will win, we determined them from the center, elect them' during the candidate process, then on the morning of April 1, the day after March 31, an early election will be discussed in Turkey and our President cannot sit comfortably in Beştepe."
