The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance removed CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and his administration from office with a decision taken on September 2, 2025. Following this decision, an interim board of directors was appointed under the chairmanship of Gürsel Tekin. CHP members, reacting to the decision, organized protest demonstrations, and police intervened in these protests. A large number of people were detained. Gürsel Tekin made statements at the party building where the protests continued.

Following these developments, former AKP Ağrı Mayor Savcı Sayan reacted to the situation in a statement he made on social media. Stating, "We are doing it wrong... I swear we are doing it wrong, by God we are doing it wrong," Sayan indicated that the methods being applied were incorrect.

Sayan's post is as follows:

"WE ARE DOING IT WRONG..

My brother, I swear we are doing it wrong, by God we are doing it wrong. If there was truly fraud in the CHP provincial election, the solution is very simple: The election is cancelled, and the state holds a new election under the supervision of its own officials and a judge. But what are we doing? We are pitting rival people against each other.

With this method, we can neither achieve a result nor provide any benefit to the country. On the contrary, we are straining the country, we are straining the public. Moreover, we are opening a space for victimhood for the CHP, which deserves no such favor. This process, first and foremost, harms our President.

'IS THERE A NEED FOR THIS MUCH VIOLENCE?'

It harms our democracy. Is there really a need for this much tension, this many police, this much violence? Is there any point in being embarrassed before the world? When the state cancelled the Istanbul elections, the election was renewed. Now, the same path should be followed.

If there is fraud, let the election be renewed. Let the state send its own officials, its own judge. Let the election be held again. Let those who committed fraud also be tried in criminal courts. When the matter is this simple, why are we making it so big? Neither my mind can grasp it nor my heart can accept it."
