During the discussions on the draft law regarding stray animals in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), AKP Rize MP Harun Mertoğlu stated that permission should be obtained to neuter animals. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır responded, saying, "Mashallah, you have very creative MPs; when we say 'let's neuter them,' they ask 'will you get permission from the dog?' If you are going to be this concerned about animal rights, then tear up this law."
Discussions are continuing in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on the general provisions of the 17-article 'Draft Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law,' which includes regulations concerning stray animals.
AK Party Rize MP Harun Mertoğlu stated, "You keep saying the only solution is neutering, but where do you get the authority to neuter animals without their permission, who gives you this right? Is reproduction not a right for animals?"
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır said the following regarding Mertoğlu's remarks:
"You have done something that has never happened in this Parliament, but by bringing those people to the commissions, you wanted to create a conflict between animal lovers and those people. Mashallah, you have very creative MPs; when we say 'let's neuter them,' they say 'let's insert an IUD' or ask 'will you get permission from the dog?' If you are going to be this concerned about animal rights, then tear up this law."
