AKP's Ergenekon admission comes years later

A historic admission has come from the AKP regarding the FETÖ-led Ergenekon conspiracy case of 2008.
Former Minister of Justice and AKP Group Deputy Chairman Abdulhamit Gül spoke during the 2025 budget negotiations for the Presidency in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
As reported by Sözcü, Gül stated that 17-25 December was a fabrication, saying, "Just as in the Ergenekon cases, a major fabrication is in question here as well."
İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez, who was tried in the Ergenekon case, also said, "Apologize to the nation. Erdoğan was the prosecutor of that case, and then he gave his armored vehicle to the scoundrel who was the true prosecutor of that case." CHP Istanbul Deputy Engin Altay also said, "You are calling both of them conspiracies. I wish you had not taken on the role of prosecutor for the Ergenekon cases. You have now confirmed how wrong a job Erdoğan, who was the prosecutor, did."
ALL WERE ACQUITTED
In the Ergenekon case, which was opened in 2008 by FETÖ-linked prosecutor Zekeriya Öz, 274 defendants were tried. Individuals including soldiers, politicians, journalists, unionists, and businesspeople were tried on charges of "establishing and managing an armed terrorist organization, inciting attacks on the Cumhuriyet newspaper and the Council of State, and attempting a military coup."
On July 1, 2019, all defendants were acquitted.
