AKP's Kızılcahamam move: Is a fine-tuning of the Presidential Government System coming?

The ruling AKP party aims to both strengthen its organizational structure and clarify its roadmap for the 2028 elections with a summer camp it will organize after the holiday. The camps, which will be directly presided over by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will be held in the Kızılcahamam district of Ankara.

In the first phase of the camp, provincial chairs will come together at the end of this month. In the second week of July, a comprehensive camp will be organized for members of parliament. In both programs, the expectations, problems, and goals for the upcoming period of the party organization and the legislative group will be discussed.

NEW CONSTITUTION ON THE TABLE

One of the most critical agenda items of the camps will be the new constitutional efforts that have been on the public agenda for a long time. The party management is carrying out preparations to update the constitutional drafts previously submitted to Parliament. According to AKP sources, new regulations will be made on the constitutional text, and this text will be prepared with the potential ground for contact with the opposition in mind.

However, party staff point out that while there are plans to keep dialogue channels with the opposition open, some "red lines" will be protected. In this direction, constitutional efforts are expected to be one of the main agenda items of both camps.

System criticisms, which have been discussed in AKP lobbies for some time and reflected to the public by some party administrators, are also being moved to the camp agenda. Some disruptions in the functioning of the Presidential Government System, especially criticisms such as slowness in bureaucratic processes and the dysfunction of Parliament, are frequently voiced within the party.

In line with these complaints, which are stated to have been conveyed to President Erdoğan, it is seen that the search for an "update" or "revision" rather than a radical change in the system is coming to the fore. According to the lobbies, steps such as making ministers more visible in Parliament and reorganizing some institutional structures are being emphasized.

NEW ERA STRATEGY AND FIELD ORGANIZATION

Another important goal of the camps will be the restructuring of the organization in the process leading up to 2028. Erdoğan is expected to make speeches containing comprehensive political analyses at both the provincial chairs and parliamentary camps. In this framework, it is planned to implement new policies aimed at young voters, activate digital campaign tools, and strengthen field organization.

AKP staff state that with the messages Erdoğan will give at the camps, the button will be pressed for "renewal" and a "stronger field presence" in the party. Within the party, this process is defined as "restructuring."

THE PULSE OF THE ORGANIZATION WILL BE TAKEN

Thanks to the meetings to be held with both provincial chairs and members of parliament, the AKP management will also have the opportunity to take the pulse of the organization directly.
