Ali Babacan speaks on the economy: 'This government took the keys to the house the citizen owned and said, you will now live in a rental'

'Wouldn't we have known how to furnish it' 

Criticizing the austerity measures announced by government officials in his speech, Babacan said, If you are talking about austerity, start the measures to be implemented from the very top. Both waste and austerity start from the top down. During my 11-year tenure as Treasury Minister, the furniture in the office I handed over was the same as the furniture in the office I received. Wouldn't we have known how to furnish it?  In the past, not a single penny could be spent without the Treasury's signature; there was both a handbrake and a foot brake, but now there is constant acceleration.  Currently, there is no braking mechanism. The authority to spend lies solely with Erdoğan himself.   I am calling out to Erdoğan from here. Take responsibility for the retirees waiting in meat queues. Take responsibility for the students who won a place at university but could not get a dormitory spot. he stated.

I have been saying this for years, but I will continue to say it without getting tired; how much law, how much economy.  No matter what the Treasury or the Central Bank does, does it matter? Can there be investment in a country where scandals related to law enforcement are exposed every day?  A year has passed since the general elections. There is no improvement in the daily lives of the people. The situation has become unbearable. A major operation,  a major surgery is necessary.  A state is strong with its institutions; is it possible to speak of a strong judiciary right now? Is it possible to speak of a strong economic team? If you want to fix the economy, follow the current  constitution.  Today, if retirees are spending their lives in queues for cheap bread, it is because of the current incompetent attitude.he said.
