The 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) has begun at the Ankara Sports Hall.
The election for the party chairmanship will be held on the first day of the congress, where Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is serving as the Divan Chairman. Mahmut Tanal, who was alleged to have punched CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, has been appointed as the Deputy Divan Chairman.
Speaking about the congress, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır said, "The things I have seen and the situations I have experienced in these 5 months have saddened me greatly. Look, my friends, I am sitting in this seat; if a colleague attacks me, and the Honorable Chairman says 'I will do what is necessary,' and then two days later appoints him as the Deputy Divan Chairman, can I continue to sit in this seat?", announcing that he would resign from his post if Kılıçdaroğlu wins.
EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT FROM BAŞARIR TO 12PUNTO
Ali Mahir Başarır made exclusive statements to 12punto regarding his remarks that have been widely discussed on the political agenda.
"ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WILL WIN"
"I believe in Özgür Özel. I set out on this path with him, I worked with him," said Başarır, adding, "Ultimately, if the Honorable Chairman, who said 'I will do what is necessary to someone who disrespects this office,' proposed him for the Divan, then it falls upon me to leave my post on Monday. Dignity requires this, but it will not be necessary. Özgür Özel will win."
KILIÇDAROĞLU’S STATEMENT: 'I ENTERED THE ELECTION WITH A DAGGER IN MY BACK'
Başarır also evaluated the statement made by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in his opening speech at the congress, where he said, "I entered the election with a dagger in my back."
Başarır spoke as follows;
"All of the CHP's deputies and all of its members, we all cried when we became candidates and we cried when we lost. We worked day and night. This organization worked. I do not know where or in whom he is looking for betrayal."
