Ali Mahir Başarır reacts to IMM indictment: He threw the folders to the floor

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır made harsh criticisms regarding the indictment prepared against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) during a press conference he held at the TBMM.

Başarır threw the empty folders he brought to represent the indictment onto the floor, stating, "They called it the corruption of the century, but the lawlessness of the century has emerged."

Başarır stated that when they examined the indictment, they found no new elements, saying, "All the allegations, which are in the nature of gossip, have found a place in 4000 pages over 238 days."

Emphasizing that the accusations in the indictment are not based on concrete documents, Başarır said, "They said there was corruption of 560 billion, then they reduced it to 160 billion. However, there is no evidence regarding this money."

"THERE IS NO EVIDENCE IN THE INDICTMENT"

Başarır stated that the accusations in the indictment are not based on any concrete documents, saying, "There are no HTS records, no technical or physical surveillance, and no MASAK report. There is no money in the bank records. What is there, brother?" He also reacted to the language used for the CHP Chairman in the indictment, stating, "On page 39 of the indictment, it says 'the person named Özgür Özel who came to the CHP chairmanship position.' Who is this person named Özgür Özel? He is the chairman of the Republican People's Party."

Başarır stated that the indictment should not be accepted, calling out, "Return this indictment. Ask the chief prosecutor to explain where this money is. There cannot be such an indictment, such an investigation." Arguing that these allegations against the CHP are an attempted coup against the will of the people, Başarır said, "This is a memorandum. This is not an indictment," and invited the entire nation to protect democracy.
