The 7th Chairman of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, evaluated the March 31 Local Elections.
Speaking to Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü, Kılıçdaroğlu said, “The fact that the election results were in favor of the CHP from the beginning naturally made us all happy and pleased in our own home. The fact that the election resulted predominantly in favor of the CHP produced positive results not only for CHP members but also for millions of people who were experiencing pessimism. People had begun to feel a bit hopeless in Turkey. With the success of the election, our democracy won. The fact that the election took place in a calm environment—even though problems arose from time to time—is a beautiful, good result. We are also extremely happy for the CHP.”
Kılıçdaroğlu also responded to the allegations that he worked against the CHP in the local elections.
"A CAMPAIGN CONDUCTED BY AKP TROLLS"
Stating that “the claim of working against the party is irrational,” Kılıçdaroğlu spoke as follows;
“I did not go out into the field, that is true. Because the party does not have such a tradition. But I participated in the election campaigns of some of our mayors via video call. That is, the mayors requested, ‘Can you participate via video?’ At the very least, I said ‘Yes’ to this and participated via video, and I asked for votes to be cast for the CHP mayoral candidate.
Elazığ is the city where I attended high school. I participated in a joint broadcast of three television stations broadcasting in the province so that the CHP would win there. Therefore, it is already irrational for a former chairman to work against his party. I can say that this is something stemming from prejudices or a campaign conducted by AKP trolls.
Otherwise, anyone with common sense knows that CHP members work for the success of their own party members. The nature of the business already requires this.”
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Journalist Şaban Sevinç had shared striking inside information regarding Kılıçdaroğlu.
Speaking on the program Özgür İfade with Cansu Canan Özgen on Tv100, Sevinç had said the following;
"On March 19, a journalist friend of ours, İhsan Akdemir, visited Mr. Kemal at his office. The following dialogue took place; 'There is an expectation that you will support the CHP's candidates. Why don't you support them? If you went and supported the candidates you are on good terms with in the field,' he says. Mr. Kemal's expression is this: 'If I go out into the field, they will blame the defeat on me. They are losing the election,' he said."
