Another rival for İmamoğlu: Cemal Enginyurt, who entered Parliament on CHP lists, to run for IMM mayor!

Turkey will head to the polls for local elections on March 31, 2024. Istanbul is among the cities where the critical election is most anticipated.

The AKP, aiming to win back the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality it lost in 2019, has fielded Murat Kurum against IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The İYİ Party, which decided to enter the local elections "free and independent," has nominated Buğra Kavuncu in Istanbul.

While the Saadet Party's IMM candidate is Birol Aydın, the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) has fielded Azmi Karamahmutoğlu.

DEMOCRAT PARTY'S IMM CANDIDATE IS CEMAL ENGİNYURT

While it is being awaited with curiosity whether the DEM Party will field a candidate in Istanbul, a new candidacy announcement has come from the Democrat Party front. Journalist İsmail Saymaz said during a live broadcast on Sözcü TV that Democrat Party Istanbul Deputy Cemal Enginyurt, who entered Parliament from the CHP in the May elections, will be a candidate for Istanbul.

Saymaz said, "I spoke with Cemal Enginyurt. He said, 'I will be a candidate for Istanbul.' I told him I did not advise it. Because he is also a name who was elected as an Istanbul deputy from the CHP list."

In a statement he made in recent days, Enginyurt said, "Would I like to be a candidate for the Democrat Party in Istanbul? I would. I wanted to be a candidate in Ordu, but unfortunately, we had talked and discussed it in Ordu during Kemal Bey's time. I was going to be a candidate from Ordu with CHP cooperation, but the new management did not see us as suitable."-
