Another rival for Kılıçdaroğlu: Ünal Karahasan announces his candidacy for CHP chairmanship
As the CHP prepares for its party congress, another name has emerged as a candidate for the chairmanship. Ünal Karahasan announced his candidacy for the CHP chairmanship at a press conference held at the party's headquarters.

Ünal Karahasan, who was a parliamentary candidate nominee for the CHP in 2011 and 2015, announced his candidacy for the chairmanship at the CHP Headquarters.
"I HAVE COME TO PROTECT ATATÜRK'S TWO GREAT WORKS"
In his statement, Ünal Karahasan said, "I have come to protect the two great works of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Hello. The eternal leader and Chairman of the CHP is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. I have come to propose the opening of an important debate within the CHP."
Stating, "I have come to discuss a new direction that overcomes the egocentrism that produces arrogance, produces an authoritarian perspective, and which sometimes infects us all from the codes of being an oriental society," Karahasan added, "I have come to propose that the office of Chairman be abolished at our 38th Congress and that we transition to a General Secretariat approach."
Karahasan said the following:
"Our party's chairmen—or as I would put it, general secretaries, if my proposal is accepted—should go to the Presidency of the Socialist International after their service to the party and after paying their debts to the country, in order to pay their debts to the world as well. I have imagined it as a gain and a source of pride for Turkey to see our very valuable Chairman serve as the President of the Socialist International after his duties in the party."
