AKP İzmir Deputy and Member of the Digital Channels Commission Şebnem Bursalı had shared a photo of the lobster she ate at the Monaco Yacht Club with her followers on her social media account.
Bursalı, who faced reactions even from within her own party due to her post, made a statement on her social media account. In her statement, Bursalı ignored the backlash she received and argued that her post had been distorted. Bursalı also stated that she was saddened to have upset President Erdoğan.
Şebnem Bursalı wrote the following in her statement:
“After our intense election campaign, a food post I made at a restaurant where I went to spend the holiday with my family and nieces living abroad—something I never usually do—has caused justified public reaction. As a journalist of 30 years and now a deputy, I apologize to the entire public for this mistake, which I have not made in my social media posts until today. My sorrow is infinite that my party, of which I am honored to be a member, and our esteemed President, whose path I am honored to walk with every breath, have been targeted for this reason.
While I express my sincere regret regarding the food and the subject, which never carried any ill intent and has absolutely no connection to the prices written, I also understand very well those who are trying to use this as an opportunity to change the agenda to make people forget the cable car disaster in Antalya!
We also know for what purpose those who do not say a single word about the tragic event in the heart of Istanbul where 29 of our people lost their lives, and the incident in Antalya where innocent people lost their lives, were injured, and remained stranded for hours due to blatant negligence, are distorting this event!
I respectfully submit this to the public.”
