Former President of the Association of Judges and Prosecutors (YARSAV) Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu is launching a legal battle to annul the appointment of Akın Gürlek, who was appointed as Minister of Justice by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Eminağaoğlu announced that the lawsuit to be filed at the Council of State will take place on February 16.

“WE ARE FILING A LAWSUIT AS ANKARA BAR ASSOCIATION LAWYERS”

In a statement made via social media, Eminağaoğlu said, “We are filing a lawsuit as Ankara Bar Association lawyers for the annulment of Akın Gürlek’s appointment as Minister of Justice.” Defending the rule of law and judicial independence, the lawyer stated that the appointment process was contrary to law and justice.

IS GÜRLEK’S APPOINTMENT UNLAWFUL?

Describing Akın Gürlek’s appointment as Minister of Justice as “in reality a new attack on law and justice,” Eminağaoğlu argued that the appointment should be annulled. Following these statements, an application will be made to the Council of State on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00.

After the lawsuit is filed, Eminağaoğlu and the accompanying lawyers plan to hold a press conference at the entrance of the Council of State. In the statement to be made to the public, he invited progressive segments to show solidarity.

LEGAL STRUGGLE CONTINUES

Emphasizing that the struggle for law and justice will continue, Eminağaoğlu called on the public and the progressive public opinion to support their case.
