Application to the Court of Cassation to 'shut down the AKP'! 'The secular Republic is dying'

The People's Liberation Party (HKP) has applied to the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation for the closure of the AKP. Speaking about the application, the party's lawyer stated, "We are presenting a ready-made indictment to the Chief Public Prosecutors of the Court of Cassation. Let us see if they are truly the prosecutors of the secular Republic, as their titles suggest, or the prosecutors of the fascist religious state that is being constructed."

People's Liberation Party (HKP) Deputy Secretary General Lawyer Sait Kıran and HKP Headquarters Disciplinary Board Chair Lawyer Ayça Okur have filed an application with the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation for the closure of the AKP on the grounds that it has "become a center for activities contrary to secularism."

The petition, which lists recent calls for a caliphate and anti-secular reactionary actions, stated: "It reveals that the AKP does not aim to realize a secular and democratic state of law where fundamental rights and freedoms are valid, but rather a social model where religious rules apply and which takes its references from religion; and that such actions have become a center for anti-secular activities through being committed with determination and intensity by every level of the party, starting from its chairman."

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DECISION RECALLED

The petition recalled the Constitutional Court's (AYM) previous decision regarding the closure of the AKP, which stated that it had "become a center for activities contrary to the principles of a democratic and secular Republic," and added: "We request that an application be made to the Constitutional Court to file a lawsuit for the permanent closure of the AKP in accordance with the Constitution, the Law on Political Parties, and the ECHR."

"THE SECULAR REPUBLIC IS DYING"

Making a statement in front of the Court of Cassation regarding the application, HKP lawyer Ayça Okur said, "The secular Republic is dying, a fascist religious state (Sharia) is coming." Okur stated that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan showered praise on the Taliban, that Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin challenged the secular Republic with his speech defending protocols signed with religious sects and communities, and that HÜDA PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu clearly advocated for the ethnic and religious division and fragmentation of the country in his speech on autonomy.

Okur continued her statement as follows:

"Under the protection, support, and guidance of the government, caliphate rallies are being organized, and anti-secular, pro-Sharia slogans are being chanted at Anıtkabir. The country's mosques have been turned into political propaganda venues for the defendant political party in power. On November 10, some medievalist, sect-affiliated lieutenants refused to wear the badge of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of our Anti-Imperialist War of Independence, and were able to crumple his photograph and throw it on the ground."

"LET US ALL SEE"

Lawyer Ayça Okur concluded her statement by saying: "We are now presenting a ready-made indictment to the Chief Public Prosecutors of the Court of Cassation. Let us see if they are truly the prosecutors of the secular Republic, as their titles suggest, or the prosecutors of the fascist religious state that is being constructed. Let us all see together."
