In the latest phase of ongoing corruption investigations targeting CHP-run municipalities, Şile Municipality has been targeted. 6 people, including Şile Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, were detained in an operation conducted by Istanbul Police Department teams on the night of July 10.
REFERRED TO COURT WITH ARREST REQUEST
The prosecutor's office conducting the investigation referred Mayor Kabadayı and 4 municipal officials to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for their arrest on charges of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "extortion," "bribery," and "rigging of tenders." Judicial control was requested for one of the suspects.
SERIOUS CHARGES: BRIBERY, TENDER RIGGING, ESTABLISHING AN ORGANIZATION
The charges directed at the detained suspects include interfering with public tenders, gaining profit through the municipality, and abusing the institutional structure. According to the prosecutor's file, it is alleged that a network of interests was established within Şile Municipality and corruption was committed in many transactions.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED WITH THE TIP-OFF OF 6 WITNESSES
It was learned that the investigation was launched in line with the statements of a total of 6 people, one of whom is a "secret witness." It was noted that the witness statements contained details regarding irregularities in certain tenders and that bribes were received in exchange for these transactions.
