Backlash against hair-braiding trend continues: 'They are trying to steal everything that belongs to the Turks'

Retired Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı has reacted to the hair-braiding trend that started on social media following the cutting of the hair of a woman who is a member of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG. Stating that the hair braid is a historical symbol of Turkish women, Yaycı opposed the use of this trend as a "separatist sign."

In his statements, Yaycı emphasized that the hair braid is an important symbol for Turkish women. "The hair braid is a symbol of Turkish women. There are even signs of hair braids in Central Asian Turkish tombs," he said. Yaycı alleged that this traditional symbol is being turned into a "separatist sign" by a group.

The retired Rear Admiral continued his remarks as follows: "They are trying to steal everything that belongs to the Turks. We must not remain silent in the face of such situations, because these are attempts against the constitutional order. Events such as lowering the flag cannot be dismissed as simple protests. A punishment must be given so severe that they can never dare to show such audacity again."

Following a video filmed in Raqqa, women started a trend on social media by sharing videos of themselves braiding their hair in reaction to the cutting of an SDF member's hair. Well-known figures such as Pervin Buldan, Meral Danış Beştaş, Ayşegül Doğan, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Pervin Chakar, Eren Keskin, and Belçim Bilgin participated in this trend.
