Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk has not been reinstated to his post despite being acquitted in the case filed against him.
The tenure of Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun, who was appointed as a trustee in Türk's place, has been extended for another two months by a decision of the Ministry of Interior.
THE TRUSTEE APPOINTMENT WAS MADE LAST YEAR
Ahmet Türk, who was elected as the DEM Party candidate in the local elections, was removed from office last November on the grounds of a case filed against him, and a trustee was appointed in his place.
The Ankara 14th High Criminal Court, where Türk was being tried, had issued an acquittal decision for Türk as a result of the trial.
“WE HAVE NO SUCH EXPECTATION”
Ahmet Türk answered questions from members of the press following the DEM Party's parliamentary group meeting.
When asked by a journalist, “You were acquitted in the case, is a return to office in question?” Türk replied, “No, we have no such expectation. There is currently no development on that front.”
