The legal battle that began for 29 workers whose contracts were not renewed in September 2024 at the AKP-run Şavşat Municipality in Artvin has concluded in favor of the workers following the completion of the appellate process.
The municipality had taken the case of the workers, who had received a reinstatement ruling in the local court, to a higher court; however, the appellate court also upheld the decision, stating that the workers were in the right. Thus, the 29 workers have gained the right to return to their duties.
REMINDED THE MAYOR OF HIS PROMISE
CHP Şavşat Provincial General Assembly Member Yaşar Gülel took the floor at the Artvin Provincial General Assembly session and made statements regarding the issue. Gülel stated the following:
"29 workers were dismissed. While their employment contracts were terminated due to expiration, the Mayor at the time had said, 'friends, bring us a legal basis, and we will rehire you.' Our friends want to return to their jobs. We would be very pleased if you would support the return of these friends to their jobs in order to ensure unity, solidarity, and brotherhood in Şavşat. They are all truly children in need, as we all already know. They work in the municipality with limited means and have low salaries. I request that you help these friends. This will also earn you points because the mayor personally said in my presence; 'friends, bring a legal basis and we will rehire you.' There is no decision greater than a court decision. My friends have such a request."
If the Şavşat Municipality does not reinstate the workers within the legal timeframe, it will pay the workers the compensation and wage receivables determined by the court ruling.
