Bahçeli had said 'Turkey must intervene': Statement from IYI Party on 'sending troops to Gaza'! 'We do not find it right that our country's security...'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, in a statement made following Israel's attacks on Gaza, had given Israel a '24-hour' ultimatum and stated that if a ceasefire was not achieved, Turkey should intervene.

While this move by Bahçeli brought the question "Will Turkey send troops to Palestine?" to the agenda, a statement regarding sending troops to Gaza came from the IYI Party.

In a written statement issued by the party, it was stated, "We do not find it right for our country's security to be put at risk for domestic political concerns."

In the statement made by the IYI Party International Policies Presidency, it was underlined that all kinds of diplomatic and humanitarian support should be provided to Gaza. However, regarding sending military support, the IYI Party said, "We believe that taking steps without considering the security of our Turkey would not be the most rational option."

'TURKEY'S SECURITY MUST BE PRIORITIZED'

The following statements were included in the statement made by the party:

"However, if the government's statements imply providing direct military support, we believe that taking steps without considering the security of our Turkey would not be the most rational option.

The Republic of Turkey is a unitary and secular state. The deployment of the Mehmetçik (Turkish soldiers) outside our borders can only be a matter of discussion if there is a threat to the indivisible integrity of our homeland.

If a stance is to be taken within the framework of the United Nations or international organizations, military support can of course be provided. However, Turkey's security and interests must be prioritized.

As the IYI Party, we cannot find it right for Turkey to be used for the regional or global interests of other countries and for our country's security to be put at risk for domestic political concerns."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had made the statement, "For two weeks, chain humanitarian disasters have been occurring in Gaza. The brutal attacks, which have reached the level of genocide, have long since exceeded the limits of patience and endurance. As the Nationalist Movement Party, our call is this: If a ceasefire is not achieved within 24 hours from today, if the attacks do not stop, and if bombs continue to be dropped on the oppressed, I share with my nation openly that Turkey must intervene rapidly and do whatever is required by its historical, humanitarian, and faith-based responsibility."

Saadet Party Chairman Temel Karamollaoğlu also supported MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, saying, "I thank Mr. Devlet Bahçeli for the sensitivity he has shown regarding Palestine. I support his call, which is a requirement of our history, our faith, and our humanity."

Following Karamollaoğlu, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu said, "Just as we support every step taken and every call made, I also appreciate and support the expressions voiced by Devlet Bahçeli for our brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine."
