Bahçeli's remarks on the CHP congress back on the agenda: What did he say about Özgür Özel?
The candidate for the change movement, Özgür Özel, has won the chairmanship election in the Republican People's Party (CHP). MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's remarks from last July regarding the leadership race in the CHP, where he said, "Against Ekrem, I would say Özgür Özel," have returned to the agenda.

The chairmanship election was held on the first day of the Republican People's Party's 38th Ordinary Congress. While four names announced their candidacy before the congress, İlhan Cihaner withdrew his candidacy minutes before the congress, and Örsan Öymen withdrew during the congress.
The candidate for the change movement, Özgür Özel, and the candidate for the party headquarters, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, competed for the chairmanship. Manisa MP Özgür Özel was elected as the new CHP Chairman at the 38th Ordinary Congress, receiving 812 votes out of 1,366 delegates. Kılıçdaroğlu came in second in the leadership race with 536 votes. 12 votes were declared invalid.
BAHÇELİ'S REMARKS BACK ON THE AGENDA
Following Özel's victory, the statement made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli last July has returned to the agenda.
Responding to journalists' questions after the extraordinary session of Parliament on July 25, 2023, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli had stated that in the event of a change in CHP leadership, he would favor Özgür Özel over Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
"AGAINST EKREM, I WOULD SAY ÖZGÜR"
Bahçeli had said, "I asked myself; if my classmate does not continue in the CHP, I would say Özgür against Ekrem."
